HERSHEY—There have been 163 high school basketball games played at Giant Center since it put the hardwood floor down for the first time in February 2003 for the Lancaster-Lebanon League girls and boys championship games.
Simply by the nature of the high profile championship games played there, there already is a growing list of memorable games and performances by memorable teams and players.
Two of the PIAA District 3 semifinal playoff games played earlier this week at Giant Center surely have earned a long-standing spot on the list of performances to be remembered at GC.
Greencastle-Antrim’s Dameatric Scott’s 39 points in the Blue Devils’ 93-85 four-overtime loss to Susquehanna Township on Monday night in the AAA semifinal is the most points scored in a game by one player in Giant Center history. He topped Willie Morse’s 33 points scored in State College’s upset of Chester in the 2003 PIAA State AAAA championship game.
Scott had 27 points at the end of regulation and added 12 points in the first two overtimes before fouling out with 41.4 seconds left in the second overtime.
Then on Wednesday night, Northeastern’s Autumn Lau put on a show of her own when she scored 29 of her 33 points in the second half in a 70-68 loss to Gettysburg in the district AAAA semifinal. She topped the girls record of 30 points in a game established by Meredith Cox of Delone Catholic in the 2004 District 3 AA championship game.
In all there have been 11 30-plus point performances at Giant Center.
