Blazers need one more win to wear gold
By Gorden Blain
HERSHEY – Lancaster Mennonite will play in its first PIAA District 3 AAA girls championship game Saturday after blitzing Lancaster-Lebanon rival Lampeter-Strasburg 59-26 on Wednesday afternoon in a semifinal at Giant Center.
Mennonite will face the winner between Northeastern (20-6) and Gettysburg (19-7), whose game followed at Giant Center.
Senior guard Kelsey Gorman led the Blazers (26-4) with 19 points. Sophomore Erin LaVenice had 18 points and Danielle Zeamer had 10. Renee Fritz scored 10 points for L-S (23-4), who will play Gettysburg/Northeastern in the third-place game.
Gorman’s three-point basket with two minutes to play in the first half gave the Blazers a double-digit lead at 27-15 and they increased the margin in the second half. They outscored the Pioneers 10-4 to start the third quarter to take a 41-19 lead and L-S had no chance to rally. The Pioneers struggled on their first game in Giant Center, missing all nine of their three point attempts.
