HERSHEY— The first basketball game was played at Giant Center in February 2003.
It’s clear that it hadn’t hosted a game like the one Greencastle-Antrim and Susquehanna Township played on Monday night.
Susquehanna Township outlasted G-A 93-85 in four overtimes. The game did not end until 10:28 p.m.
The game was tied at 55-55 at the end of regulation; tied 61-61 after the first overtime; 71-71 after two overtimes; and 81-81 after three overtimes.
The Indians (27-2) truly earned their spot in the PIAA District 3 AAA championship game opposite Steel-High Thursday night back at Giant Center.
Steel-High (23-5) punched its ticket to the district final earlier in the evening with a 85-50 rout of Daniel Boone.
Greencastle-Antrim (23-5) will play Daniel Boone (23-6) for third place.
There were numerous stellar performances in a game to remember before a paid crowd of 3,236.
Before he fouled out with 41.4 seconds left to play in the second overtime, G-A’s Dameatric Scott had scored 39 points. The silky 6-6 forward scored G-A’s final points in the fourth quarter and in the first overtime.
Before he fouled out with 10.4 seconds left in the third overtime, Township’s Greg Edwards scored 25 points. His put back sent the game into a third overtime.
Before he fouled out with 24.3 seconds left in the fourth overtime, G-S’s Jordan Gembe scored 28 points. His 12 of 12 sharpshooting at the free throw line and three-point basket in the overtimes kept G-A alive.
Township’s Tajh Turner scored 10 points before he fouled out with 58.6 seconds left in the second overtime.
Matt Jones’ turnaround jump shot with 2:33 left in the fourth overtime finally gave Township the lead for good. He finished with 19 points. Akeem Wilson’s three-point play on a put back basket gave the Indians a 89-83 lead with 1:39 left in the fourth overtime that at last finished off the Blue Devils. Wilson scored 18 points.
