Steel-High continued its dominating post season run
By Gorden Blain
HERSHEY – They are the historic kingpin of District 3 basketball and after the Steel-High Steamrollers demolished Daniel Boone 85-50 on Monday night at Giant Center in a AAA semifinal, they are showing no signs that their permanent place among the hoop elite in Pennsylvania was ever at risk.
After a rare two-year absence from the district championship game, the Rollers, whose 20 overall district championships are the most of any school in District 3, have reclaimed their dominance and now take a run at their seventh AAA district championship Thursday night at Giant Center. The Rollers’ six district AAA titles, all since 1998, are the most since the PIAA created four classes in 1985.
With Daniel Boone leading 6-4 early on, the Rollers’ big front court of 6-7 Josh Proctor and 6-6 Jeff Davis and quick and lethal backcourt of Lance Chisholm, Jordan Smith and Ryan Hill launched a impressive end-to-end highlight session of fast breaks, big rebounds, steals, blocked shots, layups and dunks.
They scored 16 straight points to take a 20-6 lead and cruised to a 36-21 halftime lead. The Rollers left the Blazers behind in the second half building 30-plus-point leads in the third and fourth quarters before the benches were cleared.
Steel-High, which defeated Susquehanna Township in the Mid Penn Conference tournament championship game, will face the winner of the Susquehanna Township vs. Greencastle-Antrim AAA semifinal later at Giant Center.
Proctor led Steel-High with 23 points, Chisholm had 200 and Smith scored 12. James McCarthy had nine points to lead Daniel Boone.
