In the first of four head-to-head matchups between top teams from District 12 (Philadelphia Public League) and District 3, Andrew Randall lived up to his all-state-player reputation with a game-high 27 points as Communications Tech improved its record to 15-2 and upheld its No. 1 spot in the state AAA rankings. His nine points in the fourth quarter held off a late rally by Delone (17-2), which saw its 17-game winning streak snapped. An emerging dominant player in District 3, junior center Chris Hartman scored 30 points for the Squires, a strong contender for the District 3 AA championship. Chris Jones had 12 and Shaquille Shannon had 10 points for the Phoenix. Adam Naymick had 11 points for Delone.

Played at an intensity level of a state championship game, the No. 2 AAA team in the state rankings Susquehanna Township, upset the No. 1 team in the AA state rankings and two-time defending AA state champion Prep Charter 56-51. Sophomore guard Ben Dupree drilled a long three-point shot from the top of the key with just seconds remaining to give the Indians, who improved to 17-1, the lead for good in a game that had numerous lead changes and fantastic plays. Matt Jones led Township with 17 points, Dupree had 11 and Taj Turner and B. J. Smith each scored 10 points. Jesse Morgan had 17 and Parrish Grant had 15 for the Huskies (12-4), considered to be among the best teams in the state, regardless of classification.
Central Dauphin East 71, Frankford 63

Demond Bates scored 15 of his game-high 20 points in the fourth quarter as Central Dauphin East pulled away in the second half. Tied at 27 at halftime, the Panthers also were strong underneath the basket behind forwards Quion Gunning and Terrence Kellum, who both scored 14 points. Frankford’s inside game was also strong, led by Khayree Brown’s 16 points and Malik Tinsley’s 13. Malik Ballard had 14 and Steven Haynes scored 10 for the Pioneers. East improved to 17-2 while Frankford dropped to 12-4.

The Squirettes (13-6) started fast and built a 29-13 halftime lead before the Lady Huskies (11-6) rallied in the second half. Jen Scherer had a game-high 22 points and Meagan Raville scored 13 for Delone. An emerging star in the Public League, Lashay Banks had 15 points. Sophomore guard Robyn Harcum, who had a strong performance, scored nine. Delone improved its record in Challenge games to 3-1.

It was a dominating performance by Imhotep, led by power forward Rashad Savage’s 18 points. Will Adams scored 16 and Samuel Prescott, Ivory Wells and Lamar Trice each scored 11 points as the Panthers (17-2) reaffirmed their reputation as one of the top AA teams in Pennsylvania. Pitt football recruit Mike Cruz led the Crimson Crushers (14-4) with 12 points.
Gettysburg 71, Hollidaysburg 60

In a Challenge between two AAAA teams with an eye on a darkhorse role in their respective upcoming District playoffs, Gettysburg (11-9) continued its late season surge by winning its fifth straight and seventh out of its last nine games. Guard Dontez Reid had 26 points, including six three-pointers, for Gettysburg. Zach Michael scored 12 points for the Warriors. Luke Ottaway scored 33 points for Hollidaysburg, the third highest single-game total, in the history of SPORTSfever Challenges. Jimmy Sharon added 10 points for the Tigers (9-10).
Millersburg 60, Harrisburg Christian 46

He was one of the top running backs in District 3 football and he is one of the top scorers in District 3 basketball. Millersburg’s Brett Derr scored 25 points and his brother Garrett had 18 in the Indians’ hard-fought win over pesky Harrisburg Christian (4-12). The Indians, whose start to the basketball season was delayed when the football team reached the District 3 A championship game, have played 20 games (15-5) in 45 days. Anthony Golden didn’t see action until the second quarter and still led the Knights with 19 points. Corbin Bower had 12 and Dan Mummau scored 11.
Tri-Valley 53, Harrisburg Academy 37

The focus was on high scoring Stephen Pederson of Harrisburg Academy (12-6), who was averaging 28 points per game. But Tri-Valley’s double-teaming defense held him to 10 points while the Bulldogs’ emerging underclassmen led the way. Freshman Shane Wert scored 20 points and sophomore Matt McGinley scored 10 for Tri-Valley (6-14).

McCort played like a serious AA state championship contender against one of the traditional Class A powers in District 3. The Lady Crushers raced to a 19-10 first quarter lead and kept the pedal on the floor the rest of the way. Marissa Basile scored 15 points, Julie Morey had 12 and Maria Felton had 10 for McCort, ranked No. 4 in the state rankings. Sam Carangelo led the Lady Beavers with 13 points
